Tüyap Palas food shooting

The 1st week of March 2014 I  had an assignment for Tüyap Palas ( http://www.tuyappalas.com/ ), an luxury hotel in Istanbul, here the Executive chef is Erdem Dirbali, one of the best Turkish chef and the captain of the Chef Turkish Team.
We had 2 full day of shooting, intense but full of satisfactions for both.
Here some preparation, BTS, and the final results.

Carnival Mask Party at Palazzo Venezia Istanbul

Saturday 1st of March 2014 in Istanbul the Italian Ambassador in Turkey Gianpaolo Scarante and the wife Barbara, organize the Traditional Carnival Mask Party. This happening is a must for the "good society" and the results was amazing.

I was the photographer for the Embassy and here some of the nice mask of the evening.

Street photo in Ankara

I like to shoot street photos.
I like to shoot street photos with wide lenses. My preferred lens for street is an old Canon 17-35 L f2.8.

When you shoot with wide lens you have to go close to the action, you have to be in the photo. 24 mm too is a quite good lense to shoot street.

What I really don't like is who shoot with zoom in street. In my personal opinion in this way you are "stealing" something.

I know is not easy to stay into the action and shoot and have a natural feeling in the photo, but any zoom , in street, don't give the correct prospective like photographer.

My personal goal in street session is to stop a piece of "soul". Register on the sensor not only the moment, but, most important, the "soul" of the moment.
Some day I walk for hours and I take only few photos, because there is not the right feeling.
Some day in half hours I shoot like crazy.

Nice place to shoot in Ankara are the renewed Kuğulu Park, or near the Castle area of Ulus.
In the open market, PAZAR or HALI too is wonderful to shoot, for example early in the morning .

Divan Çukurhan Otel is an amazing hotel in the most historical and ancient neighborhood of Ankara: ULUS, just in front of the big door entrance for the Ankara Castel.

500 yıllık bu mekan eskiden kervansaray olarak kullanılıyormuş.Şimdilerde tamamen restore edilen mekan gerçekten görmeye değer.3 gün süren çekimler boyunca (gün doğumu ve günbatımı dahil) ; otelin içini, dışını ve restoran bölümünü tamamıyla çektik.

It has more than 500 years and was a caravansaray,now is totally renewed and the interiors are amazing.The shot was taken for the interiors, external and restaurant.It was a job of 3 days, including sunrise and sunset shooting for external.

Bu çekim için ,iç mekanlarda flaş kullanmasak da, tabii ki bazı ek ışıklara ihtiyaç duyduk.Bu projede ; soft box içine yerleştirilmiş, 5700k devamlı ışık kullandım ki bu hem çok güçlü hem de çok az elektrik harcıyor. Her bir soft box’ ta 85 watt’ lık 2’ şer lamba vardı( 600 watt’ a eş değer). Tabii ki her oda için tek tek beyaz dengesi test edildi.

For the interiors, in this case, we didn’t use flashes, some supplementary light sometimes was needed of course. For this assignment I prepared some 5700k continue lights ( low electricity consumption, powerful),inside a soft box. In each soft box there was 2 bulb of 85 watts ( 600 watts equivalent). In every single room the white balance card was used with a shoot.

Çekimin genelinde tripodlar ve kumanda kullandık. HDR tekniği kullanmadık ama konsept aynıydı.Fotoğrafların çoğu 0EV olarak iyi olsa da, bazıları için –örneğin avize ya da çerçeve gibi nesneler için) post prodüksiyonda 0EV ile +-2EV fotoğrafları birleştirdik ki mekanın atmosferini daha iyi bir ışıkta verebilelim.

Most of the shooting was done with tripods and remote shooter and always in bracketing of +-2 EV.We didn’t use HDR technique, but the concept is the same. Most of the photos are good in 0EV, but some particular, some lights for example or some frame we mix in post production, to have all the ambient and the room in good light.

Panoramik fotoğraflar ise ,ayrı ayrı 8 karenin birleşiminden elde edildi .

The Panorama pictures is the stitching of 8 different photos , I think is amazing.
